Start with use, then choose a material
Consider heat, sunlight, flexibility, loads and the finish you want. Colour is only one part of the decision. Exact performance varies by filament formulation, print settings and part geometry.
Six useful starting points
| Material | Consider it for | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| PLA | Display pieces, prototypes and everyday indoor objects | Easy to print; limited heat resistance |
| PETG | Practical parts needing more toughness | Stringing and surface finish need attention |
| TPU | Flexible bumpers, grips and compliant parts | Hardness and feed-system compatibility vary |
| ASA | Outdoor parts exposed to sunlight | Needs suitable printer setup and ventilation |
| ABS | Tough, heat-resistant parts | Needs an enclosure and ventilation; large parts can warp |
| Resin | Fine detail, such as miniatures | Printed and finished in the studio; quoted by volume |
Use the right profile
Start with a profile supported by the printer and filament manufacturer. Drying, build-plate choice and enclosure requirements are material-specific. Ask us to help choose a material for a quoted part.
